WNBA announces AT&T WNBA All-Star list 2022
The WNBA announced its roster for the AT&T WNBA All-Star next Sunday. The roster includes Jewell Loyd, Courtney Vandersloot, and Rhyne Hult, Atlanta Dream rookie. Fans and head coaches select the All-Stars. The WNBA's roster, which includes two-thirds each of the players from each team, is the biggest in history. Many notable players are absent, including Elena Delle Donne, who is still recovering from back surgery, as well as Nneka Ogwumike. Nneka was also injured and has missed the Olympics.

Noelle Quinn was named the first Black head coaching position in the history and development of the Seattle Storm. Quinn joins Dallas Wings head coach Vickie Johnson as the only Black women currently leading WNBA franchises. Two Black men have been head coaches of the league, James Wade of Chicago Sky and Derek Fisher from the Los Angeles Sparks. Quinn's resume is impressive. She played for the Los Angeles Sparks between 1997 and 2000.
Brittney Griner sentenced to nine years in a Russian penal colony
Brittney griner, an American basketball superstar, was sentenced to nine year imprisonment in a Russian penal colony after being found guilty for drug smuggling. The lengthy trial, which lasted several months, became a geopolitical hot spot between Russia and the United States. Griner was taken into custody in February at Moscow Airport. Russian officials charged her with trying to smuggle pot oil into Griner's suitcase. She denied knowingly attempting to violate any laws, but did admit to packing her vape cartridges with the cannabis oil.
