There is no better way to compare ice hockey than the old guard and the young guns. Carli Lloyd, 39 is a member the U.S. team's "oldguard." The old guard includes some of the best players in the history of the sport. But with the women's ice hockey team, this group is not without its problems.

OL Reign - After a victory over Louisville, the Red Devils were a strong contender to make it to the playoffs for the Women's National Team competition. The OL Reign has missed a few matches because of injuries. Imani Dowsey suffered a head injury when playing in a friendly against Kansas City. Dorsey won't likely be available for Sunday’s final game against the OL Reign.

Carli and OL played more than 300 games together, with the former scoring more goals that her counterpart. She was named March's highest-paid female soccer player and she hopes to bring home the Tokyo 2020 gold medal. Carli Lloyd is the first woman in FIFA World Cup history to score three goals. In addition, the U.S. won the 2011 World Cup as well as the 2015 Women's FIFA World Championships.

Lloyd also makes the most appearances in the Olympics with 16 as compared against Christie Pearce who has 22. She can be the Games' leading scorer for as long she plays every U.S.-team game.

Carli Lloyd has retired from the U.S. women’s national team

The U.S. women's national team announced her retirement this week, and the USWNT has been mourning the loss. Carli Lloyd has been with the team for 15 years and played in five World Cups, winning three. She will be missed, however, she will not be forgotten. In November 2016, she was married to Brian Hollins. She was substituted in the 66th minutes of her last match, which was against South Korea. Her husband gave her a standing ovation when she left the field.
