This franchise was founded in 2006, before the 2006 season. It was first called the Chicago Mercury. The Chicago Sky now has a greater following.

WNBA drafts
Despite being silent, the Chicago Sky were not present at the most recent WNBA drafts. However, local players were selected as high as the first round. Northwestern guard Veronica Burton was selected as the seventh overall pick by the Dallas Wings. The Dallas Wings selected Veronica Burton as the seventh overall pick. Last season, she averaged 17.8 ppg, 5.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and four steals. She even reached double digits in the Big Ten tournament. The Phoenix Mercury also drafted Maya Dodson, Notre Dame's forward.
Trades
The Sky have made a few moves to strengthen their roster in this offseason. In exchange for draft picks, they traded away many players. These moves included the trade of Alaina Coates to Minnesota and the acquisition of Astou Ndour and Kaitlin Lou Samuelson from Dallas. They also traded their 16th and 2021 Draft picks, as well a 2022 second-rounder.

The Chicago Sky, a professional basketball club in the Midwest United States, is known as "The Chicago Sky". Magellan remains the uniform sponsor and the team just recently released its new gold uniforms. Home games are broadcasted by WCIU-TV, WMEU-CD and WMEU. Some games are televised on ESPN and NBA TV.
Game broadcasts
The Chicago Sky has announced their 2021 game broadcast schedule. The team will broadcast five regular-season games on CW26. Lisa Byington, color analysis by Meghan McKeown and play-by–play from Lisa Byington are some of the highlights. Five games will also be broadcast on My Michiganiana in South Bend.

Fan base
The Chicago Sky enjoy a strong fan base that celebrates their accomplishments and works to improve the city. Thousands of Sky fans gathered to celebrate the team's win in the 2015 WNBA championship. This was a heartwarming community celebration and a great way to build community spirit.
