Perceptual memory

What is the nature a person's perceptual and mental memory? This question has long puzzled researchers, but the answer may be more revealing than you might think. According to this theory, the human mind is capable of recalling any past experience by bringing it to memory by a mental image. If you're asked to recall your birthday, you might picture a birthday cake with twenty candles and sit down with your siblings or parents at a table.

Personal memory

Personal memory is the ability to recall a specific event. Malcolm states that memory is composed of two components: perceptual and factual memories. Perceptual memory is the ability to form a mental picture of an object in memory. Personal memory, by contrast, is an abstract concept. Some people may not have perceptual but have normal factual memories. Malcolm discusses the differences in these two types of memory in this essay.
