Although the United States have not yet defeated Sweden, they made it interesting by scoring in the first half. Carli Lloyd and Christen Press each had a goal, while Sweden's Anna Anvegard scored two goals. Both have been included in the Olympic squad. Together, they have scored eight goals in 19 matches.

The United States women’s soccer team started the World Cup with a win over Sweden of 2-1. The Americans used an aggressive attack strategy and were centered in Sweden's half of the field. They were relentless in the midfield, creating many great chances, including two in halftime. The Americans aren't done yet. Morgan Brian was hurt during the first quarter when she attempted to challenge a Swedish player and fell. Anna-Marie Keighley from Sweden was unable stop the injury.

Jonathan Lekkerimaki
Jonathan Lekkerimaki, a skilled winger, projects to be a top six forward in the NHL. He is a strong skater and has excellent vision. Lekkerimaki was a top scorer for Sweden at the World Under-18 Championship last spring. He recently scored a goal against Canada. While the game wasn't televised at all, a replay on the jumbotron of his goal was shown.
Tierna Davidson's World Cup debut
Davidson plays professionally for Chicago Red Stars and made her World Cup debut 16months after the World Cup champions were crowned in 2017. She was a key part of the team as a US Women's National Team player.

Stina Blackstenius
Stina Blackstenius scored twice for Sweden in their first game against the U.S., putting the US on the back foot. Her first goal was a slice of luck, but she was also a key component of the dominant Swedish effort. Sweden is the 2016 Olympics world champions. Sweden held a draw of 2-2 in Stockholm with America in April. But, in Tokyo, the Americans were defeated 4-0. Blackstenius's goals over the world champions demonstrated that Sweden can be underestimated, despite being against all odds.
